Our client, Built Works, is in this month’s Flooring themed issue of AJ Specification, with new chocolate shop brand, Barnaby and its first physical store located in Covent Garden. The joinery, lighting, tiled floor and signage were handcrafted – just like the chocolate bars!
With creative direction and interiors by MORRISSTUDIO, every aspect is deeply rooted in the history and traditions of UK chocolate making. The showstopper floor tiling was developed by Built Works with ceramic studio Common Objects, to Morrisstudio’s concept design. A repeating geometric pattern that is made up of slim rectangular tiles – reminiscent of Barnaby Bars, as they are lined up to be chocolate coated.
The design showcases traditional techniques and natural materials in an honest manner, with an innate focus on using skilled craft, from the handmade ceramic tile floor, to the bespoke shopfront and joinery by K&D Joinery.
