Bell Phillips’ Tree House published in DETAIL Magazine

Our client Bell Phillips have been featured in DETAIL Magazine with The Tree House: the centrepiece of Elephant Park in south London – part of a £2.3 billion regeneration scheme led by Lendlease, creating 3,000 new homes and new public green spaces.

Trees, nature and wellbeing have inspired the design of the pavilion, which encircles a mature London Plane tree and incorporates a café kiosk, a multi-functional internal space and a public roof terrace that takes visitors up into the tree canopy.

Branches were 3D scanned to ensure the building would not impact adversely on the tree canopy.

The Tree House has a sculptural presence and is distinctly of the park, approachable and sustainable. The building celebrates the natural hues, tones and textures of its materials, which are allowed to weather and develop a patina over time that will further embed the building within its setting. In a sense, The Tree House uses the surrounding mature trees as borrowed materials – harnessing their shifting character through the seasons, and allowing people to experience them in a different way.
