Congratulations GRID Architects on making the shortlist in this year’s Housing Design Awards with Snow Hill Wharf, Birmingham.
Established in 1948 alongside the founding of the NHS, the Housing Design Awards are the UK’s longest running and most respected awards for residential design. Launched by Nye Bevan to spotlight innovation in post-war housing, they continue to set the benchmark for quality and replicable design across all tenures. Uniquely endorsed by RIBA, RICS and RTPI, the awards are judged by a cross-disciplinary panel of national experts spanning planning, design, sustainability and delivery. Backed by Homes England, the GLA and other key agencies, the awards are not only a mark of excellence but a vital tool for government and industry to identify and promote best practice in housing.
GRID’s Snow Hill Wharf transforms a derelict canalside brownfield site in Birmingham’s historic Gun Quarter into a vibrant new residential community. The design delivers 404 high-quality homes across five characterful buildings, inspired by the area’s industrial heritage, with active frontages, landscaped courtyards, and strong connections to the canal to create a desirable and liveable neighbourhood.
