Hyde + Hyde Architects have been featured in ArchDaily with Quatrefoil House – a deeply contextualised, contemporary home refurbishment & extension of an early Gothic Revival house, located in the North Oxford Victorian Suburb Conservation Area.

The structure is complemented by an exploration of ornament. Diligent restoration of the quatrefoil details above the door enhance the streetscape by returning the period character. The bronze quatrefoils are a nod to Louis Sullivan who created buildings to be visually understood through ornament. Here, this reinforces the local iconography hidden in plain sight.

Hyde + Hyde introduced floor-to-ceiling windows and a skylight to flood the home with light and open it up into the secluded garden by stairs from a terrace. Within, a bespoke timber staircase links all 4 storeys while voids below and adjacent draw light deep into the plan – creating a triple-height, open-plan ground floor.
